However, there are two problems that alsoplague the investment idea. First, the vacancy rate across China is over85% in all types of property according to the Chinese government. Second, theLifespan of a building, if it is built to code, is only 20 years, but almost noapartments are built to code and most are crumbling (literally) before they arefinished. This makes them a very poor investment medium except in the eyes of aChinese who traditionally owns a flat.

This "megacity" claim is rathermisleading. The proposed "megacity" will be 82,000 square miles --roughly the size of Utah.Obviously this will not all be populated like a city. For perspective, New York City has 8.5million people in 470 sq miles, so this megacity will be 175x bigger, yet withonly 14x the population of NY.

In other words, they are simply proposing taking a number of existing cities,and strengthening the transportation connections between them so that they area more connected unit. By this definition, one could argue that the northeastcorridor (Bostonto DC) is a megacity.
